MASTER’S PROGRAM IN PRESCHOOL EDUCATION

1. HISTORY AND DEVELOPMENT

The master’s program at the School of Preschool Education of the Mongolian National University of Education (MNUE) was initially launched with an inaugural cohort of 10 graduate students. The program was offered in two modes: a full-time track of 1.5 years and a part-time track of 2 years. At that time, due to the limited number of faculty members holding advanced academic degrees and titles, courses were delivered not only by instructors with master’s degrees but also by faculty members invited from other constituent schools.

The school’s principal research priorities have focused on “Holistic Development of Young Children” and “Theory and Methodology of Preschool Education.” Master’s students conducted and defended their research in alignment with these thematic areas.

In 2007, the first cohort of nine master’s students graduated. Over time, the school placed significant emphasis on strengthening its academic staff capacity, particularly by increasing the number of faculty members holding doctoral degrees. As of 2023, the school employs 17 faculty members with Ph.D. degrees. These faculty members develop course syllabi and curricula in accordance with their areas of specialization, which are formally approved by the program committee, thereby ensuring the quality and sustainability of graduate education. This has enabled the school to establish a stable and qualified academic team capable of independently delivering master’s-level programs.

During this period, the master’s curriculum has been revised and enhanced five times. Collaborative teaching initiatives were also implemented in partnership with Dr. K. Kaue from the University of New Mexico (USA), including co-teaching, the development of instructional guidelines, and the publication of independent study materials for graduate students.

In addition, the school regularly organizes academic conferences to present and discuss the research outcomes of master’s students, alongside the annual university-wide conferences organized by MNUE. At these events, graduate students present their research findings, which are subsequently published in MNUE’s academic journals such as “Oyuuny Khutuch” and “Lavai: Theory and Methodology Journal.” Furthermore, in the 2013–2014 academic year, Prof. J. Batdelger, Assoc. Prof. L. Altansuvd, and Assoc. Prof. Ts. Narantsetseg published an independent volume titled “Proceedings of the Master’s Student Academic Conference.”

Between 2005 and 2022, a total of 319 students were admitted to the master’s program. Notably, between the 2018–2019 academic year and 2022, 79 graduate students from China enrolled in the program.
